Today's my birfday!

So I refuse to do any homework!  I'm going to just enjoy the day and decide on where to go for dinner.  Mmm Yogurtland...Thank you to my friends and family for all the birthday wishes!  It really warms my heart.

One of my feel-good songs on replay

Too bad this dance sequence is tainted by that marching band. But it's ok, the
Trojan Marching Band is going to be on Glee! OH YAY

❤ Headbands and Headwraps

I'll post a better photo soon, but I'm just too excited about the headwrap I made today.  It's spring break, but I've been pulling all-nighters for the past few days to work on epic projects and short stories.  This headwrap was on my list of Things To Do as well.  As Artistic Director for the Nikkei Culture Night  (it's 3 weeks away?!?! AHH), I oversee the skit and manage all artistic decisions for the show (set design, costumes, etc.).  The show is based on the Yellow Power Movement of the 1960s and 1970s so I busted out my crochet skills and stitched away!

(This headband is for my friend Amara.  She is part of the Main Cast and plays Kristen, a young activist/hippie in L.A.'s Little Tokyo.)

I made a bunch of headbands as Christmas gifts so it was nice to make more.

I love headbands, especially my flower power headwrap.  I've wanted to get a headwrap for a while, but I could never find one in my budget that also looked good on me.

Free People Applique Stretch Headband: $24

        Urban Outfitters: $24
Ban.do: $35

Ban.do No. 60: $95

Ban.do No. 101: $165

Ban.do She Loves the Ritz: $200

The elastic ones tended to bunch my hair into a tangled mushroom cap.  I like this headwrap because I can adjust it, and the yarn is very soft and doesn't itch.  It also keeps my bangs out of my face nicely (even though I'm fighting the urge to cut my bangs...)

I'm giving it to Amara on Sunday so I really want to make one for myself.  I have a feeling I'll be working on it at 3 A.M. when I watched "Three's Company" on TV Land.  :)

P.S.  Don't you just love Mamegoma?

Thank you, Natalie Dee

I was having a pretty awful day (failed at making rice for some reason, no chili for my taco salad, too many phone calls) until I came across Natalie Dee's webcomics.  I can't stop laughing!!  After following Meghan Murphy for such a long time, I should really start my own webcomics soon.  Too bad I have so much homework.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Mommy and Daddy!

My parents are pretty strange and don't celebrate their wedding anniversary.  So in honor of their 30 years of marriage, I had some fun with the quizzes on The Knot.  For example, what's my bridal style?

You're a Traditionalist

By blending your taste for tradition with a sense of contemporary, you'll pull off a fabulous affair. Our advice: Pick your main colors, then pull in all your elements around the color combo -- from bridesmaid dresses to favors. Don't be afraid to think beyond pale pink: Taking a cue from what's au courant is one way to give traditional an unforgettable twist.

Happy π Day!

Berry pie is my favorite...and Rachel Berry.

What is your favorite kind of pie?

Welcome to my sketchbook!

Nocturnal as usual

I can't remember the last time I had a good night's rest.  For the past couple of months, I've woken up in my piles of books, frantically searching for my glasses (praying that I didn't roll over them in my sleep) and highlighter/pen (praying that I'm not covered in ink blotches).  I'm not sure why I'm so busy.  I'm not super overwhelmed by extracurriculars.  I guess it's that perfectionist side of me.  Since I'm taking so many creative classes this semester (three to be exact, and I love them dearly), I spend a lot of time brainstorming.  And brainstorming leads to thinking....drooping eyelids...ahh, what a nice nap— gahhh where are my glasses?  What time is it????

Yeah.

And creativity takes a long time!  From brainstorming to committing to an idea and finally executing the project, there is very little room for error or backtracking.  I avoid procrastination as much as possible, but all-nighters are inevitable especially when you're working with X-acto knives and gouache.

But I don't really mind staying up.  Everything is quieter, calmer.  That is, until my freak roommate decides to throw her sheets off, pop out of bed, and shuffle her way into the living room or bathroom.  Like my mom would say: "Scare the hell outta me!!"

I'm staying up tonight to finish reading Willa Cather's "O Pioneers!" and a chapter for IML about the meaning of composition.  I can't stop thinking about all the projects I have to work on over spring break, but I'm also really excited to spend a week with my sister and mmmmmonkey (!) because we have the best time together.  I've been so lucky to hang out with her so much this semester already.  I can't wait for our misadventures!

P.S.  I'm hoping to work on my blog banner over my break so you don't have to look at all that heinous text anymore.

Song of the Week

Heeey, Heeeeey, Heeeeeey.

Your lipstick stains, on the front lobe of my left side brains,
I knew I wouldn't forget ya, and so I went and let you blow my mind.

Your sweet moonbeam, the smell of you in every single dream I dream.
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided,
Who's one of my kind.
Hey, Soul Sister, ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair you know.
Hey, Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you dooooo...
Tonight.

Heeey Heeeeey Heeeeeey...

Just in time, I´m so glad you have a one-track mind like me.
You gave my life direction,
A game show love connection, we can't deny...

I´m so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest.
I believe in you, like a virgin you're Madonna,
And I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind...

Hey, Soul Sister, ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair you know.
Hey, Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you dooooo...
Tonight,

Way you can cut a rug,
Watching you's the only drug I need.
You're so gangster, I'm so thug
You're the only one I'm dreaming of you see.
I can be myself now finally
In fact there's nothing I can't be,
I want the world to see you be, with me,

Hey, Soul Sister, ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair you know.
Hey, Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you do tonight...

Hey, Soul Sister, I don't wanna miss a single thing you dooooo...
Tonight.
Heeey, Heeeeey, Heeeeeey, tonight.
Heeey, Heeeeey, Heeeeeey.
Tonight.

Michael Giacchino is Genius

Thank you, guys. When I was… I was nine and I asked my dad, “Can I have your movie camera? That old, wind-up 8 millimeter camera that was in your drawer?” And he goes, “Sure, take it.” And I took it and I started making movies with it and I started being as creative as I could, and never once in my life did my parents ever say, “What you’re doing is a waste of time.” Never. And I grew up, I had teachers, I had colleagues, I had people that I worked with all through my life who always told me what you’re doing is not a waste of time. So that was normal to me that it was OK to do that. I know there are kids out there that don’t have that support system so if you’re out there and you’re listening, listen to me: If you want to be creative, get out there and do it. It’s not a waste of time. Do it. OK? Thank you. Thank you. - Michael Giacchino, winner of best original score for “Up”

\'red\

You boast incredible willpower and are capable of overcoming obstacles that would normally leave others shaking in their boots. You have a penchant for colorful environments and often impress others with your energetic bursts of energy. Your interests in many areas of life often leave you scattered, but when you focus you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.
